Kashidani Terraced Rice Fields

The Kashidani terraced rice fields, with an average slope of 20% and 257 individual plots, offer a stunning sight when flooded from May to June each year. Recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries as part of the “Linked Terraced Rice Field Heritage” initiative, these fields are a testament to traditional agricultural practices. Efforts are also being made to preserve both the terraced fields and the surrounding woodlands and rural landscapes that support local ecosystems and communities.

Please note: The roads are narrow and passing can be difficult, so exercise caution when visiting by car.
Additionally, some visitors have reported getting lost when following GPS navigation. Please refer to the site linked below and follow the signs starting from Shirataki in Ozu City.

The owner and trust systems are also in place for the preservation and support of these fields.
