warm trip memories

What does "memories" mean when it comes to travel?

Maybe it's time to enjoy locally produced food.
But looking deeper, it is "encounters with people" that create a memorable experience.
May be that it is what makes traveling a truly enriching experience.
The old folk houses that remain in Ozu Castle contain vestiges of the lifestyle that our ancestors have carefully passed down.
new uses are being attempted.
Getting closer to locals, you might be able to get a spiritually enriching trip.

Konan area is Ozu's old district, occupied by the former castle-town. It spreads along Hiji River's mid-course, where it curves sharply. Because it was spared war damage, many cultural assets, such as Ozu Castle and Garyu Sanso (villa), have been preserved. Additionally, traces of its medieval town layout including narrow streets and merchant houses have also been preserved. Also, from late 19th century, vegetable wax production, silk spinning, and timber trade flourished leaving noticeable traces of this thriving activity spread over town. Currently, Konan district is the core area of Ozu, where administrative offices and other institutions are located, yet it is visited by many people as an area that retains its quaint old townscape.
Enjoy sake that has been slowly brewed [Sakano Sawada Ogura House]
In a quiet town street, there is an old folk house with a sign that says "Ogura". After being used as a hardware store and a folk crafts store, it found a new life as Sakano Sawada Ogura Tei in February 2020. At this liquor shop, which was born out of the idea of ``old and new,'' you can enjoy sake sold by weight, which was a common practice until about 150 years ago. Inside you'll find a selection of carefully selected wines and local sake. Listening to the stories of each winemaker and thinking about their efforts to produce their wines you'll enjoy better its tasting.

How about sampling and comparing delicious sake at ``Sakano Sawada'', which has re-created a way of enjoying wine & sakes in Ozu's old district, while implementing a friendly atmosphere at a renovated space.

A space enhancing sensibilities
For 170 years, residence MURAKAMI has been watching the comings and goings of many people. Since it was passed down to the current owner -who moved to this area upon an unexpected encounter- it has become a rare place where people and things with a modern sensibility gather in a historical space. There are days when delicate craft are displayed in the moonlit hallway, and other days when the sound of a guitar echoes in the guest room...A pleasant time will continue to flow in the old mansion tomorrow. And the following days.
Encounter an ever-growing array of local souvenirs [Shizukuya shop]
Attracted by Ozu's late undertakings, many people gather in this town. Is it the power of the clear waters of the Hiji River? is it the castle castle-town with its quaint townscape that makes it so? The Konan area, which has been attracting people for a long time, seems to be finding a renaissance and overcoming the hardships of western Japan 2018 heavy rains.
