At Ozu Castle, it is now possible to stay overnight in its wooden castle keep. Ozu Castle was abandoned during the Meiji period, leaving only scattered structures and a crumbling castle tower behind. In 1888 it was decided to demolish it. But surviving photographs of the original structure and wooden models enabled locals to undertake its faithful reconstruction. Enjoy a miraculously reconstructed Japanese castle. 
The sounds of conch shells and gun squad blasts welcome visitors. 
As the evening approaches, conch shells resound in Ozu Castle. The welcoming parade, then, makes it ground into castle . A recreation of the arrival of Sadayasu Kato , first castle lord from the Kato clan (Ozu rulers for more than two centuries) from his former Yonago domain(1617) is enacted. Flag wavers and gun troops await and salute. Here guests are allowed to enter as “kagemusha”. After a heartful salute by the castle entourage, guests are led into the reconstructed structure by the chief retainer.  
After that, guests are treated to some traditional performing arts that Ozu is proud of. The gagaku -traditional court music- and kagura -sacred Shinto dancing- that unfold in front of the castle are truly masterpieces. A variety of choices can be made according to the customer's wishes, such as more elaborate types of Kagura, cormorant fishing (ukai) viewing or fireworks display.  
Enjoy the quietness of a Japanese castle tower 
Sadayasu Kato, the lord of the castle at the time, is said to have spent time some time in the main keep. On the first floor of the castle tower, a bedroom is enacted, with shoji screens and tatami flooring. Get a glimpse into the Japan of samurais and reflect on time, on your past and your future, as the Ozu Castle lords surely did. Ozu Castle is a cultural property where you can get closer to local history. And spare a though to lord Sadayasu when enjoying the moon viewing from the top of one of the Ozu Castle turrets. 
At opening hours the castle tower can be freely accessed. Enjoy the wind, dusk or the rising sun while approaching its grounds. From the second inner circle -Ninomaru- and you can soothe your fatigue while looking out at Ozu Castle rising on the banks of Hiji River. 
Enjoy dinner with exceptional local produce 
Dinner is an important part of staying at Ozu Castle. Castle Lord 's menu combines carefully selected ingredients from Ozu and Ehime Prefecture with traditional recipes. Sake selection encompasses the whole experience.  
The happiness of a hometown 
Imotaki (local taro hot pot)' has been passed down to local generations since the Edo period. Taro, grown in the Hiji River basin fertile soil, is cooked in soup stock made from sweet fish. The soft and rich taro is also known as 'summer sweet potato' in Ozu. It is a simple yet nutritious dish that epitomizes this region. 
Seasonal dish 
The menu is similar to what Sadayasu Kato would have eaten at the time, with modern expressions added. As a banquet meal for hospitality, the ingredients are prepared using the best techniques. Tobe ware vessel (an industry created by the Kato family itself) are used to are used to served this royal meal. 
Seafood 
On the Castle Lord 's table are carefully selected ingredients. Delicate and plump delicacies that can only be eaten at Ozu Castle include seafood nurtured by the currents of the Seto Inland Sea, or mountain delicacies harvested in the fertile soil. 
Enjoy breakfast at Garyu Sanso, a masterpiece of Sukiya architecture.
