It was built in 1901 as the head office of the Ozu Commercial Bank. The building is mainly a Brick building built in England, and is characterized by a Japanese-Western eclectic style with Japanese tiles roofed with Japanese tiles and the character of Sho on the demon tiles. At that time, Ozu was at the height of its prosperity as a base for the manufacture of Wax production and silk production, as well as distribution by boat. The "Garyu Sanso (villa)" was completed at the same time, showing how economically prosperous the Ozu was at that time and had a high level of culture.
In the main building, there are a lot of souvenirs that are unique to this place, such as high-quality Ozu miscellaneous goods, Japanese accessories, crafts, and special products by local and prefectural artists. You can touch the delicate craft, such as the smooth texture and sophisticated design of the ceramic "Tobe ware" in Ehime Prefecture, and accessories using cocoons from Ozu.
At the cafe on the second floor, you can enjoy drinks while looking out at the red brick courtyard. It can also be used for a variety of purposes, such as taking a break while walking around town or as a gallery. The annex has many exhibits, including a nostalgic movie collection, a movie projector, and nostalgic movie posters.
